On 13 September 2020, the Victorian Government announced a $3 billion Business Survival and Adaptation Package, including a deferral of the planned adjustments to the landfill levy. There will be no changes to landfill levy rates in 2020-21, but previously announced changes for 2021-22 and 2022-23 will proceed as planned. This decision will provide further financial relief to businesses, councils and the community.

Note: The term ‘Priority Wastes’ will replace ‘Prescribed Industrial Waste’ from 1 July 2021 when amendments to the Environment Protection Act 2017 take effect. Priority Waste – Category D is a new category which commences when amendments to the Environment Protection Act 2017 take effect.
